About Me
|
|
What is "lounge" music exactly? Usually it's popular,
'standards' or theatre songs sung with a single piano or
small ensemble. Visions of Bill Murray camping it up come to
mind and there's a lot of truth to that image. But in my
case it's more that I was writing theatre music and
performing it myself and so it came out sounding like
"lounge" to a lot of people.

NOTES

|
July, 2003 |
It's a few years old now, but people still like this one.
I've pretty much abandoned this more literal theatre style. (Too
much work.)
My first Songfight entry. |

August, 2003 |
I was trying to do a Cab Calloway song. I still like it, though
the song needs a horn section and a more authentic-sounding
singer. |

Thunder Storm |
September, 2003 |
A more serious Sondheim-like ballad. I was insanely proud of
this when I first wrote it. My opinion of it has mellowed a bit
since, as I've started to take its criticisms to heart, but I
still like it. |

Hold My Calls |
October, 2003 |
I originally thought of this as a poor man's Thunder Storm", but
now I think I like it better. Shamelessly old-fashioned, but try
and go with it. |
